Around four tonnes of raw tobacco has been seized at Dublin Port.
The smuggled tobacco, which has an estimated retail value of more than €2.4 million, was discovered by Revenue on Tuesday after routine profiling.
According to Revenue, the tobacco represents a potential loss to the Exchequer of around €2 million.
It was concealed in boxes labelled as ‘printing paper’ which had originated in Germany.
This seizure is part of Revenue’s operations targeting the shadow economy and the supply and sale of illegal tobacco products.
Officials say that investigations are ongoing.
In recent days, Revenue officers have also seized more than 1.6 million cigarettes in Dublin.
