Against the backdrop of the Twitter ban, Buhari appointed a new NBC DG

The president, Major General Mohammad Buhari (ret.), Has taken a hit on Nigerians on social media following the ban on Twitter and the appointment of Shehu Ilahan as director general of the National Broadcasting Commission.

PUNCH had earlier announced the appointment in a statement issued by Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammad in Abuja on Friday.

The appointment comes days after former DG Armstrong Idachaba ordered television and radio stations to “remove Twitter handles and not use Twitter as a source of information for news and programs” under a country ban on Twitter.

The new appointment has sparked reactions to Nigerians taking to social media to blow up Buhari for taking such an action amid a ban on Twitter.

A tweep from @Echi_di_me said, “He (Buhari) fired him (Idachaba) after he used it to enforce a ban on media houses. Lesson learned: You can’t feed a dinosaur, it will still eat you.”

Another tweep, @nwa_spareparts, wrote, “I told my friend Prof. Armstrong Idachaba to do this easily and never get angry with the Nigerians while trying to please Buhari. They use and spill.”

“One Benue replaced Idachaba with Muslim Shehu Ilela. I do not feel sorry for Idachaba already. The tyrant would resign instead of playing cards. Now you can see! ”@Eebuchi tweeted.

@santoioni tweeted: “This should be a lesson to other ‘tools’ in the hands of politicians. Unfortunately, Nigerians do not learn! ”

Adara Adaba wrote on Facebook: “It is very unfortunate that a sitting president is showing such tribalism and nepotism. I cry for this so-called country. ”

Another Facebook user, Solomon Amehson, wrote:When a man named Idachaba provided lip service to this relative president … I knew that Buhari would not hesitate to appoint someone other than Fulani. ”

Gladys Adepeju also wrote on Facebook: “They have appointed another person to erase all traces of the atrocities committed by them. The #EndSARS killings were rejected by FG with the support of broadcasters. It will be worse now.
