The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun confirmed that the latest death toll had risen to 13.
The provincial FRSC Sector Commander, Mr. Ahmed Omar, told the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) in Ota on Thursday that four people had died while being taken to hospital.
He said 12 others were injured.
The FRSC Sector Commander said on Wednesday that nine people had been killed and 16 others had been injured in the crash, NAN reported.
He explained that the accident took place around 15.45 around the Wichtech Company, near the Danco Station, on a constantly busy highway.
Accident registration number: APP 28 YE and a commercial white Mazda bus with a blue Volvo truck without registration number was involved.
The sector commander then said that 25 people were involved in the accident and the bodies of the deceased were placed in the morgue of Sagamu Hospital.
He said the injured were being treated at the same hospital.
Omar said the cause of the accident could be traced to a speed violation and overloading of a commercial bus driver.
He added that the driver of the commercial bus lost control due to excessive speed and crashed into the truck.
The sector commander said that FRSC officials and other sister agencies have begun clearing the obstacles created by the accident.
He advised drivers to be patient and calm down, as the situation on the axle will soon return to normal.
Omar stressed the need to be careful, saying that all hands should be on board so as not to lose his life due to carelessness on the road.
While advising drivers to always follow the rules and regulations of the sector, the sector commander was convinced that the FRSC will continue to commit to creating a safer environment. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
