Zamfara Police Command said it had neutralized a well-known armed robber in the province and rescued 11 abducted victims.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Mohammad Shehu, confirmed the development in a statement in Gusau on Thursday.
“Yesterday at around 1 pm, a large number of armed robbers closed the Gusau-Sokoto road on the Dogon Karfe axis and feared that the passers-by would cheat for safety.
“Police tactics patrolling the road are rapidly mobilizing.
“When we arrived at the scene, the police opened fire on the bandits who were kidnapping innocent passengers and preparing to take them to the forest,” he said.
“The operatives repulsed them in an attractive way and the hoodlum prevented further attacks on the passengers,” Shehu said.
He noted that one of the robbers was neutralized during the match, and the 11 abducted victims were immediately rescued by operatives.
“The command is stepping up various search and rescue strategies to safely rescue the remaining victims who have been taken to the forest before the police arrive.
“All the rescued victims came together with their families,” he said.
However, Police Commissioner Husseini Rabiu reaffirmed his promises and orders to put an end to security problems in the province.
