More than 34,000 sign an online petition in 24 hours, demanding the cancellation of the celebration of the PND 2021: The Online Citizen Asia

An online petition on Change.org titled “Cancel Singapore National Day (PND) 2021 Parade” sees an increase in signatures by 320 per cent in just one day.

The petition, initiated by a person named Abby See, began on Monday (July 19) to urge the Government to cancel the holding of the 2021 PND due to the growing number of COVID-19 cases in the country.

When TOC reported on this petition yesterday (July 21), it had only garnered just over 8,000 signatures.

However, at the time of writing, there are more than 34,500 signatures received, showing an increase of 321.88 percent.

Its goal is to receive 35,000 signatures to be considered one of the most signed petitions on Change.org.

As for the content of the petition, he mentioned that “it makes no sense” for the Government to hold a public event as the number of COVID-19 cases increases, adding that the event is not considered “essential during a pandemic.” .

He added that even if NDP is not considered a social gathering, it is still a “large-scale gathering,” noting that thousands of people will be present at the event when they do not, regardless of whether they are vaccinated or not. no .

The petition also questioned the need to give the green light to NDP when the Government has continuously urged citizens to stay home.

Most signatories wrote to suggest that the money used to run the event should go to help people in need during this pandemic period and that the event itself was a possible event of dissemination of COVID.
